Is Roy Oswalt asking for too much money?

Roy Oswalt is on the trading block, there’s no secret about that, and there are teams seriously looking at the 32-year-old fireballer.

But reports are emerging that Oswalt’s contract demands are too extravagant for his suitors and any potential deal could be halted. The Philadelphia Phillies are the team pursuing Oswalt the hardest but seem to be unwilling to meet Oswalt’s contract demands.

The Houston Astros’ ace has $7million left on his contract this season and has $16million guaranteed next year and a club option of $16million in 2012 with a $2 million buyout. However, Oswalt is looking for a team to guarantee him the option in 2012 before he approves a trade.

That request is reportedly putting a halt to any deal on the table because the Phillies are only willing to pay the $25million he is owed this and year and next.

If Oswalt doesn’t change his stance, he might find himself staying put with Houston and might again not have the chance to play in the play-offs.

Oswalt is 6-11 so far this season with a 3.12 ERA, 117 strikeouts and a 1.07 WHIP.
