  1. Besides nukes, not really.  They are pretty strong but not a superpower by any means.

  2. Of course they are. They are still the 2nd most powerful nation in the world. China hasn't proven anything yet.

  3. It depends on your perspective.  They have the ability to press millions of conscripts into service, but they continue to use equipment based on mid-20th century technology.

  4. Yes, h owever I believe they are at this moment changing their strategy as they are buying up Natural Gas.  They will, through their pipelines for this Natural Gas, put a monetary stronghold on Europe,  You watch and see.

  5. ...with all the thousands of nukes they have...what do YOU think?

  6. It's all a matter of the reference point?  In compared to who?

  7. Yes

  8. I thing since the fall of communism they are like us, they are considered a threat any longer because the are part of the same peace program we are in.

  9. Russia is capable. They are a powerhouse military that now has the deep pockets to revamp their military machine to become a more current robust military might. Part of any country's assessment of being a military power has to do with location. Russia is not located in the middle of Namibia.  They are in Europe, and they are the strongest among their competitors.  What Russia now has to do is to demonstrate the ability to project its production in gas (Gazprom), military capabilities in space, land and sea, as well as it's economic currency presenting reliably strong like the Japanese Yen, the former U.S. dollar, the German mark.  A currency that trade can depend on globally alongside an infrastructure than can bear the burden of many countries dependency on its productivity. Then and only then will it be by definition a super power. The Russian goverment, like many governments can be its own worse enemy.  Only second to China, they do not want to share power with Corporations, they want to run it themselves. A classic example is the hostilities between BP in Russia and the Russian government. Previously a shared agreement, now Russia wants to take board control.  They seem to think this is done in the dark, but in plain daylight the world can see they cannot resist snatching anything, like a kleptomanic. This will not help Russia. Power and influence is much more desirable among negotiators than raw power.  My last point is that Russia is capable of producing a super mess, but so is Iran or the Hezbollah. Russia has work to do. A strong central government imploded; formerly the USSR, it seems Russian power has not learned this lesson, or do not believe it.

  10. Any country that is a nuclear power is deemed serious, but I think if it was they're army against ours, we'd take it, but then again learn from the germans and dont take em on a land battle in the dead of winter. russia's army against other nations (not all of them) they have just as good a shot as they do if not alittle more to pull out in front.

  11. yea, they are no were close to us or china, but besides us they might be the most powerful.

  12. Not really. But there ally China is...
