  1. Stevia is a natural sweetener, not a chemical one. It's many times sweeter than sugar. Widely used around the world as a sweetening alternative to sugar without any significant problems, though here, in the US, the FDA has labeled it as unsafe, due to various studies. Other studies show Stevia's potential in treating various medical conditions, such as diabetes, and hypertention.

Being plant derived, some people may be allergic to it. It's related to the sunflower. Some of the troubles with Stevia include it's being hard on the liver.

  2. No!

Stevia (STEE-vee-uh) is a South American shrub whose leaves have been used for centuries by native peoples in Paraguay and Brazil to sweeten their yerba mate and other stimulant beverages. The leaves of this small, green Stevia rebaudiana plant have a delicious and refreshing taste that can be 30 times sweeter than sugar.

    Don't use Splenda at all!

I like to say sucralose, not Splenda, because that is what Splenda is. And it is in a lot of stuff. The package doesn't have to say Splenda to have sucralose in it. You have to read labels. So, you might still be using it and don't even know it!

A lot of people, including myself, have gotten/are getting sick from it.

Sucralose is poison. It ruined five years of my life. I had a laundry list of medical problems while taking it. I went to several doctors. I had a dozen different tests. I was told that I had a number of different problems. I was on different medication for many years.

The slogan, "Made from sugar..." is very misleading. Splenda might be made from sugar, but it is far from sugar. The resulting chemical is an organochloride (chlorocarbon). Organochlorides are typically poisons.

carbon monoxide - made from oxygen so its like a breath of fresh air.

  3. Stevia is an all natural sweetener.  If you are laying off the artificial sweeteners, you should give stevia a try.  Available at most health food stores.

  4. Stevia is a natural product, it has a taste much sweeter than sugar but it can leave an aftertaste much like the artificial sweeteners.  I am not sure that it does well in baking but understand that it can be used in cooking with a fair degree of success.  You can check in your local health food store for more information and perhaps even a sample.

  5. if it isn't called sugar it is artificial.

tho splenda is the sucrose of sugar
