    sayounara is used for seniors.

    of course it is used casually,too.

    Except, I wouldn't really use "bai bai," since that's more of what little kids use.

  3. Yes! It is a good way to say goodbye to your Japanese teacher.

    S/he would definitely feel happy if you try to speak Japanese.

    Cf. Here are some other ways to say goodbye informally (Note: These should not be used to your teacher):

    a) Bai bai

    b) Mata ne

    c) Jaa ne

    Other ways to say goodbye just in case you want to use them on others as well...

    jya ne - later (often in phone calls or letters)

    (jya) mata ato de (ne) - (see ya) at a later time

    mata ashita - see you tomorrow

    otsukaresama deshita - thanks for your hard work today (to co-workers leaving)

    bai bai - "bye bye"
