Scarborough was a suburb before the year 1953. Since then, its been part of Toronto.

• In the 1600s, the area was inhabited by the Seneca at the village of Ganatsekwyagon.

• In 1850, Scarborough was incorporated as a township.

• In 1953, Scarborough became a part Metropolitan Toronto.

• In 1998, Scarborough was amalgamated with North York, Etobicoke, York, East York and the old city of Toronto to become the new city of Toronto. The Scarborough name is still used as a municipality name and is recognized by Canada Post.
