How is Seasonal Affective Disorder a real disease or disorder? People that live in the big city that have no family members around or someone they truly love will naturally feel sad or depressed. I don't understand how this could be signified as a 'disorder.' In my opinion it's just another way of psychiatrists to try to control the population with more medications.

  1. Some people actually do suffer from this. It doesn't matter if they're around people they love or not, it just happens and they can't help it no matter what they do.  I have a few friends who have it and it's frustrating because they can't figure out why they feel like this.  However, the warmth *not blazing hot like it usually is where I live* tends to help people, whether it be with moods, happiness, stress levels, even autism *I forgot what it's called but the name includes the word "furnace", whenever somebody with autism finds something warm, they tend to flock to it and they seem to "normalize" somewhat.

Also think, Chicago is one of the rainiest cities in the U.S. of A, they also hold the highest rate of suicides each year in America. Just a thought.

  2. SAD isn't only about the holidays. It is also about the weather changes, or fluctuations in temperature. For example in the winter many people become depressed because it is cold or often cloudy. That's why they invented SAD lamps (which mimic Sunlight) and apparently they help. I have friends who believe in and use such things.

You're right about the psychiatrist stuff though. They're all about the drugs drugs drugs. Most of the most common, well-known and prescribed drugs (ie. prozac) are the worst grade in the pharmaceutical scale, but they are recommended by doctors because those doctors were PAID to endorse their crappy product.

Society sucks, what can I say.

  3. Well first of, Seasonal Affective Disorder is a "DISORDER".  Disorders are stuff that we do anyways, but gets SO out of control that we need help to cope with it.  Also people with "SAD" get it even if they are around family and friends etc.

  4. Uh, because people other than that get it?

  5. dude u sure hit the bullseye with the shrink part...they dont care oh they say they understand they say that cause the golf game isnt till after ur times up
