Is Sheffield more or less expensive than London?

My friend and I are planning on coming to England next summer, and I want to make a stop in London, but she wants to head straight to Sheffield, and other parts of Yorkshire. I'm just wondering if there's really any difference in the price ranges of items or places to stay in those areas.
