How is Simon for a baby boy name? Good/bad/neutral? Why so? My husband hates it and I love it! How to convince him?

  1. I like Simon. It's fairly different, and it kind of makes me think of someone very intelligent. (Though this could be because of Alvin & the Chipmunks - Simon was the brainy one!)

If you REALLY love it, how about trying to compromise with your husband and have Simon for your son's middle name?

  2. I really like the name Simon. I'm not sure how you can convince your husband to like it though. Maybe find out why he dislikes it and explain to him what you like so much about it or stand up for what he dislikes about it?

    Good Luck! :)

  3. The reason your husband probably doesn't like the name Simon is because it is not a very strong male name. It doesn't have much masculinity and right off the bat a man would feel threatened by that. I personally don't mind the name, but keep in mind, a lot of our personality development is influenced by even something as simple as a name.

  4. I am so very partial to this name. I chose it for my first son. No, his real name isn't "poot". I loved the Simon story in the Bible and all but to be honest my son got his name from "Demolition Man". The bad guy (Wesley Snipes) was Symyn Phoenix. I used the traditonal spelling, but the character was so crazy and tough that it actually made me think twice about the name. Most people tell me it sounds so distinguished, if they only knew! Good luck trying to convince hubby, we are working out a name for baby boy# 2 and with only 8 weeks to go we still haven't made a decision!

  5. I like it, but i understand if your husband does not that can create a problem.

i don't think there is a way to convince him-if someone does not like a name then they just don't.

And thats okay , we all have different likes and dislikes.

If i were you i would compromise and use Simon for a middle name.

  6. Simon is a wonderful name for a baby boy AND a grown man. It's actually a very common name in the Bible as well. It's masculine, it'll grow as the child does, it's correctly spelled, it has as nice meaning (listening), it's easy to read and pronounce, and it's not trendy OR popular right now!

Over all, it's a very, very dashing name. If you absolutely love it, but your husband doesn't, try convincing him into using it as a middle name. It's a great name, I'd love to see it used. :]

  7. I like it! I think it's great.

It's Biblical, which is one of the reasons I like it.

    Simon Peter...

Find out what the name means, then go to him and say "Hey how about a name that means this...?

If he agrees say "Good, that's what Simon means!"

  8. It's wonderful- classic, clean, attractive.

Of course, it depends on your last name, but it is easy to spell, easy to pronounce, yet not so common that people will be saying "Hey, my son/niece/cat/neighbour's kid is called Simon!" all the time.

  9. Like Simon Chipmunk! Lets hope he doesnt need glasses :(

  10. I think it's really sweet! It's familiar but not common, and it's biblical. It's been used for a ton of different people over the course of history. It's an excellent choice.

  11. It reminds me of Simon Cowel! I like it!

  12. I like the name Simon a lot! But since I knew a Simon once, I could not use it. I think one of the best ways to convince your hubby would be to teach him about someone famous with that name; watch a documentary or something - if he's into that sort of thing.

Maybe start referring to the baby as Simon, and before you know it, in his mind the baby's name will be Simon!
