I heard in news articles that if you even leave gum on the ground or vandalize property, or even murders someone, you either go to jail or be shot dead.

  1. I don't know how it is today, but five years ago, you were highly punished for leaving a cheewing-gum or cigarette on the street as a foreign tourist, and local citizens were even put in jail for that offense.

  2. Hi Dom

you don't go to jail for chewing gum and sticking it on the floor. Firstly, chewing gum is banned in Singapore because when it gets stuck between train doors, it holds up the network and 50% of us can't get to work. Secondly, will any government get away with putting gum-chewers in jail?

I know the media in the west have 1001 things to hammer us about our laws, when many of them have never even stepped foot here. But I live here and I'm immensely proud of the way things do work here. Banish all your fears about Singapore laws. This is one of the safest places on the planet to live.
