If so, when? Does anyone know the REAL reason why, it is closing, or is it just being sold to another property management company?

  1. No.  Six flags was in severe debt a couple of years ago.  And so Six Flags thought about selling magic mountain at a time when they thought that the land it sits on would be worth more than the park.  At that time a new home in Valencia cost 1 million dollars.  In 1971 Valencia wanted to boost the number of people living there by building a theme park, Newhall Land and Farming company (the corporation that planned Valencia) joined sea world and opened magic mountain in an attempt to lure people into the Santa Clarita Valley.  It worked.  Valencia is considered the best place to live in the greater LA area.  However I must admit that development has gone out of control now.  I liked Valencia in the 1990s when it was small.

Six flags was just trying to cut costs.  They didn't like how SFMM was full of teenagers and trouble makers that did not contribute to the high cost of concessions.  Six Flags wanted to attract the family type of amusement park patrons.  Unfortunately it is hard because most visitors choose Disneyland because it is more family and kid friendly.  Right now Six Flags is rethinking their strategy.  They are going to stop concentrating on being the ultimate thrill seeker park.  And opt for more kids and family friendly attractions.  Unfortunately there are plans to get rid of at least 4 or 5 more of their major roller coasters due to the high cost of maintence and not enough riders per hour.  But in answer to your question.  No as of right now Six Flags has decided to keep Magic Mountain, and they are rethinking their strategy for this park.  Because after all it sits on very valuable land.

  2. As far as I know,it is still open and is still owned by Six Flags, although it is still up for sale and that closing it would not be a possibility after the park was sold!
