Is Slingbox worth it?

I have an iMac g5 and DirecTV .. would it be worth it?

Will it stream to my computer just like a TV?

The slingbox does not actually get hooked up to your TV.  It gets hooked up to the cable or satellite box, or it gets hooked directly to the wall as in the case with the Tuner.  Because the satellite box is limited to displaying one channel at a time, so is the slingbox.  When a local TV viewer is watching TV, you will be watching the same channels.  Both the slingbox viewer and local viewer can freely change the channels.  It depends whether this problem will affect you.

If you have cable, you could get the standard stations without 2 people watching the same channels.  That's because with regular cable, you don't need a box.

I have the slingbox pro because I have digital cable from Comcast.  I bought it because I wanted it hooked up to both directly from the wall and to the box.  I mainly watch the standard channels so I do not conflict with anyone.  It is unfortunate that you cannot do anything about this with satellite.

Absolutely! I love mine. I watch as much tv sitting on my porch with a beer as i do in my livingroom. And it's cool to be able to watch stuff like March Madness while at work.

If you travel and love tv (like me) yes it is worth it.  I can pull it up and watch Tivo anywhere there is high speed internet.  You never have to miss another show.
