Question:

Is Snowboarding hard on your knees?

I am about to go to the mountains for some skiing but my knee is acting up. I have decided it's not a good idea to go skiing because it can be hard on your knees. I have a friend that really wants to go though so I was wondering if snowboard, especially your first time, is hard on your knees?

  1. if you bend your knees to absorb shock then no it isnt but if you stand relativly straight leged then yes it would be kind of hard. i have knee problems and i went snowboarding and it hurt like h**l but then my friend said i ddint bend my knees enough so i bent my knees more and now they dont hurt when i go

  2. It defenantly can be, BUT that doesn't mean it has to be. If u keep your knees bent, and if its your first time, the first thing your ganna wanna learn is how to fall right. You'll pick it up fast, but a bad fall could really hurt.

    Good luck =)

  3. no, I went for the 1st time not too long ago.  My sister is a dancer and didn't want to go skiing either.  She and I went snowboarding and it was easier and more fun.  Also the boots help your knees because they are more normal

  4. It can be depending on what your doing and the quality of the snow. Also how you are riding and what you are going to be doing. All sports can be hard on your knees. Skiing is definately much worse on them.

  5. if there is alot of powder and the slopes are not groomed then it can be bumpy and hurt your knees, otherwise no. If it is bumpy just let your knees lift up towards your chest on the bumps and absorb the shock. but it is easier on your knees than skiing because when you turn on skis you put all your weight on one foot, snowboard is more balanced on both feet during turns. your back knee will be more stressed than the front because youre supposed to lean back alittle, so if your back knee hurts you might have some pain boardung, if its the front then go for it!.

  6. its more thighs and calves,

your knees are usually stationary (ish)

unless you biff it and go down hard

  7. It probably will be a bit as if its your first time you are likely to fall alot, and you are likely if falling when on your toe edge to fall on your knees. Having said that if your learning you wont be going that fast so you shouldent have too bad an impact when you fall. Good luck with the riding.
