Is Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8 better than Sony Vegas 7?

I want to do some really good video editing, but I can't find Sony Vegas 7 for sale anywhere, and I don't know which is better.

Vegas Movie Studio is a cut down version of Vegas.  The immediate difference is that VMS has 4 video and 3 audio tracks, while Vegas is unlimited.  Vegas has track motion and better compositing features.  It also allows more control of the Main Concept MPEG-2 encoder (though most people find they can't improve on the defaults). If you need that level of sophistication get Vegas, if not, stick with VMS.  Vegas can open VMS project files, and the upgrade cost is just the price difference between the two, so you can't lose.

fwiw, most of the videos I've seen edited in Vegas could have been done in VMS!
