  1. In this day and age no place in the world is 100 % safe for anyone.

But, all in all, Spain is one of the safest places that I know...

I have lived here for 35 years. The earliest of these we could leave all the windows open at night, and go out to walk our dog as late as we wanted to!... That has changed a little. But still, other than certain large cities that have more robberies than before, most of the country is fairly peaceful...

As to american minorities...Here they would be just another group of tourists, not much difference would be made!

In Spain we now have a very large number of asian immigrants, mostly from mainland China. These generally open restaurants or bazaar type shops....

There are also the illegal immigrants from north Africa and the sub-sahara countries, these people are not always well received, as they are here with no papers, and are mostly street-vendors selling illegal CD's DVD's, and other things such as rugs, illegal copies of famous brand sunglasses, leather goods, etc.

In the last few years we are also having illegal immigration from eastern Europe. People from Poland, Roumania (these are often gypsies), and the Ukraine. The roumanians are often a conflictive group.

Some get work in construction, as masons, but those jobs are not always legal either.

However, going back to the minority american groups, they would definitely enjoy visiting Spain as tourists. And some might even want to stay!

As I said at the beginning, I've been here 35 years (I married a spaniard), and have lived here quite happily!

    :-)

  2. I agree with Abuela nany. I have been coming to Spain for over 30 years. I now live here. I live in a very rural area with a very low crime rate. It gets higher near the coast but that´s because of all the tourists. That is the same in any country in the world, however, I´ve never enountered any in my time coming to Spain.

  3. Mon Dieu! This abuela whatever the name is totally wrong!! Hahahah she lived here a lot of yrs ago!! And of course the crimes rates here is soo low.... but nothin compare with Finland or Sweden.

And many places are dangerous due to the lots of different ppl who live togheter in the same place. They do bands and all this thing... (always south americans)

Anyway is a safe place.... and the opinion of a person who live here a lot of years ago... is a bit distorsioned... so do what you want ... and i think this abuela Nanny (such a nick) told u about the illegal sellers because they are in the streets.... but maybe she didn't know about the real shops..... well such a pity.... a country formed by ppl who was in jail talking about illegal sellers .... its so funny!!! In the end u are English, and the part whom English dint want in Europe!!
