I was unaware that the US had no official language until I clicked on the medals part of the Olympics on the Yahoo main page.

as far as i know there is no official language of the us people speak many other languages  in the US and it is not illegal or anything please vote me as best answer

Its not an 'official language' but lots and lots of people speak it in the US so it would be great to know. They do list spanish under lots of english signs and listings and things like that. Some jobs even require that you know it.

Most people assume that english is the official language of the United States, but to date, the United States has not declared or formally adopted an "official" language.  There have been attempts in congress to have an amendment made to the U.S. constitution to make english the official language, but so far all attempts have failed.
