I always wonder if Stem Cell Research is Morally wrong. Is it? I first heard of this when my friend's tutor was talking about it. Isis morally wrong?

  1. It's not about whether it will benefit us and yadda yadda yadda. It's about does it use a life, or a part of a life, in a Frankensteinian manner, and the answer is yes.

  2. Depends on what your morals are because morals are completely subjective.

I believe it's not wrong because abortions are happening all the time and there's no stopping that, so why not have something good come out of it?

  3. How can it possibly be wrong to use the benefits of a fabulous scientific breakthrough to lessen the effects and possibly even cure horrendous diseases that have ravaged mankind since the first human walked the earth? Think of a world without the horrors of Alzheimer's Disease, Diabetes, Multiple Scoliosis, quadriplegia, and perhaps hundreds or thousands of other such conditions, and how can any carrying, reasonable person consider that "morally wrong"?

    Edit to add:

    To C.W.

Thank you for your understanding and empathy. The man you described  could have been my father.

  4. Its like any thing man does. Nothing we have is immoral!

Its how we use the things we have that can make the use immoral

  5. No I think it could solve many medical problems!!! and even cure many things.  I think it should not be illegal.

  6. NO!

I would kill 100 one year old human children with my bear hands if it meant that we could find a cure for cancer or spinal cord injuries!

Ovum that are NEVER GOING TO BE BABIES should 100% be used to further scientific research in to Stem Cells.

And when you consider that there are MILLIONS of fertilized ovum sitting in the deep freeze of Fertility Clinics that will end up in an Incinerator because the couple doesn't NEED the "Extra" ovum after they have a successful pregnancy... There is no doubt in my mind where those ovum should go...

    Think about it...

    Burned as biohazardous waste

    or

Used to potentially help cure cancer and heal spinal cord injuries

Each month a woman doesn't have a baby, she is KILLING AN EGG... Is THAT evil? The fact that she 'allows' an egg to be flushed from her body?

Then why is it wrong to use eggs that would have just died and been flushed anyways?

    Eggs DO NOT = People!

Eggs are just another form of tissue that gets flushed from a woman's body every month...

What is the deal with people screaming that EVERY EGG is a life when we 'kill' 12 a year if we don't get pregnant?

I say use um since it is a choice between a flush or an experiment!

  7. The other day, at a restaurant, I watched a man try to eat.  He had Parkinsons (I am assuming--based on his symptoms).  It took himover an hour and food collected all over the table--the man was so obviously frustrated and I felt so bad for him.  I cannot imagine having to do that multiple times a day.

It is morally wrong, as a society, to allow this to continue to happen when there are options.

  8. If it uses aborted babies than yes. If it uses umbillical cord stem cells than no.

  9. I don't think so. I think stem cell research could greatly benefit us and help us make breakthrough medical discoveries

  10. That's something you have to decide for yourself.  When does a human being become a human being?  When the DNA unites at conception to become a unique genetic code?  When the baby is born?  When the baby first shows signs of independent thought?  When the child can be set out alone in the wilderness and fend for itself?  Does a human stop being a human when it can no longer communicate, but just lies there in a coma?

The question of how useful the stem cells can be is secondary.  We have people dying of kidney failure, and there are not enough donor kidneys for transplants.  Should we forcibly remove one kidney each from prisoners, as the Chinese reportedly do, to save the lives of citizens?  Should we put a mental incompetent to death so we can "harvest" two healthy kidneys and other organs for "normal" people?  If you believe that human life starts at conception, then "harvesting" the stem cells or throwing away unused fertilized eggs is murder; and you begin to wonder just what society will do next.

We give lip service to the Golden Rule.  What would you want others to do if you were the fetus?  Or doesn't a fetus count?  That's something you have to decide for yourself.

  11. The left over baby's parts are usable still and could help develop into another usable organ for some lets say for example, that has heart disease and needs a heart transplant. Its not morally wrong, if its towards help other individuals live.

  12. No it is not morally wrong. Think of all the things it can help or all the people it can potentially save.  The benefits of what we can accomplish if we mastered it are endless and the risks are practically nothing.
