OK i live in Stockport we got an SK postcode even though every other District in G/Manchester has an M postcode... waaaa?

But our address also says Cheshire?

  1. I don't blame you for being confused, but it's because they keep re-drawing the boundaries

we have the same in London, like Enfield Middlesex which is also in Greater London and has EN postcode ... a lot of people like thinking they're still in a county so they stick with it, even though they might have been gobbled up by the urban sprawl

  2. In Greater Manchester, but historically, it was in Cheshire.

  3. Manchester is a city- it has M postcodes

Stockport is a town- it has SK postcodes

They are both in the county of Greater Manchester. There are 10 metropolitan counties in Greater Manchester, but I can't name them off the top of my head

Cheshire is the old fashioned name- it doesn't exist anymore. In the same way people still say Manchester is in Lancashire. It's just that Cheshire sounds far grander than Greater Manchester!
