  1. Yes..,

You think ITV would get a better commentator considering I'm sure there are english retired rugby players who would do a better job and at least 'shut up' when the action happens.

  2. i disagree

he has a valuable knowledge of the game

i think he does a great job

  3. he knows what hes talking about, he used to play for Bath

  4. No.  I live in USA, and most of the American football commentators are HORRIBLE.  They usually don't progress much past  "Look.  Tim Tebow run with ball.  He like to eat cereal, his roomate says." (say it like a cave man for authenticity).

At least Stuart Barnes has the greatest sport on earth (and the one they play in heaven) to work with, RUGBY, not the abomination that claims to be America's favorite sport.

  5. I don't rate any of the ITV commenter's, they may have played the game but they cannot run a decent commentary even if their life depended on it!

All of them are boring, dire and I wonder at times if there is a level of excitement in their body!

As for Eddie " I wish I was English" Butler, at least we are spared him!!!

He may have and captained and played for Wales and be employed by  BBC Wales, but with  his opinions and biases towards other home nations, he may as well wear a fecking red rose on his fat chest! He also makes me yawn!!!!!!

Cannot beat Johnathan Davies as a commentator, as least you get the feel of the game with game!

No one will ever come close to the great Bill "He's taking an early bath" McLaren though!

  6. Yup.  Bill McLaren was the best commentator and it'll be a long time before anyone else even comes close.

  7. I agree totally..Miles Harrison is up there too btw.

  8. Yes followed very closely by Brian Moore and then Eddie Butler. And guess wat they are all English. Come on Tonga!!!!!!Tonga, Tonga,Tonga

  9. Yes, and Eddie Butler is Welsh! Barnes never held a regular place in the England team. Rob Andrew was a far better player. I only remember him playing once against Scotland where he made a half decent break. His comments are, in the main, crass. As to playing for Bath, he was in a great team at the time, which covered up his inadequacies as a player, and made him look better than he was. He strikes me as someone who has a giant chip on his shoulder. He couldn't live with today's players.

  10. No, that would be Will "I can't shut up" Greenwood, who harps on and on and on and on... Miles Harrison is awful too -working himself into a continual frenzy over anything English.

  11. Come on, be fair, it's a very difficult job to offer off-the-cuff comments and still try to sound impartial.  I couldn't do it.

The thing is, neither can Stuart Barnes, though he's getting paid a great deal to show everyone his limitations.

I like Brian Moore (the Quin's hooker) who always gives his inside knowledge of exactly what's going on in the forwards play.  He's a much more interesting person too - solicitor, wine columnist, and a manicurist who ran his own nail bar.

  12. 90% of the commentators on ITV are rubbish.

  13. No, he's not that bad really.

There's a lot worse out there.

    Mr X

"Eddie Butler. And guess wat they are all English"

Now, from some of his commentry you might think so, but he's Welsh. He was the Welsh captain and No8 from 1980 - 1984

  14. No. You don't know him as you're not Dutch, but Frank Kramer is the worst commentator ever. He does football on Dutch eurosport. He's the only commentator I know of who  still says a team may still win if they're 5-0 down with ten minutes to go. In fact he says it everytime the situation occurs. You don't know your football, if you make such assessments. The rest of the rubbish he says during the 90 minutes of a game is of equal quality.

  15. No.

Murray Mexted is firmly in the first place, always arguing refs decisions when he blows against All blacks.

PS I'm off to France tonight, to St Ettienne, to watch Samoa-USA! See me on TV! :)

  16. O please, what are you complaining about!

Do yourself a favour and try listening to a Curry Cup game where Errol Tobias is comentating. The man can hardly speak properly, let alone comment on a game of rugby!

Joost vd Westhuisen is just as bad, he was a great player, but a terrible commentator. He stumbles over his words and always favours his old team when they are playing.

After listening to that man you'll appreciate Stuart Barnes.
