Is Syrup Neccesary in this Recipe?

1 package of silken tofu (~12 oz)

10 oz chocolate chips, about one small package. Many dark chocolate chips are vegan; check the ingredients though if this is a concern.

3 tablespoons maple syrup

1 tsp. vanilla extract; optional.

Directions:

Blend tofu (preferably at room temperature) in food processor, blender, or with hand mixer until just smooth.

In a double boiler, melt chocolate chips with a tablespoon or two of water over low heat. Stir constantly.

Add maple syrup to melted chocolate and combine.

Put chocolate & syrup blend into processor and mix with tofu until creamy.

Pour into very small serving dishes - this stuff is rich. Serve warm or chill until set...

I have syrup. ive just read another recipe, and it didnt say syrup!

  1. It will not be very sweet if you leave it out. Even the chocolate chips won't add the sweetness that the recipe calls for.


  2. probably not necessary, but you might miss out on some of the flavor

  3. The syrup changes the consistency and flavor. You should make both at different times and decide which you like better.  

  4. use honey or molasses 1/2 the amount

  5. It is not necessary but it does add a slightly different texture and sweetness to the recipe. It really doesn't make much of a difference unless you have really strong tastebuds.

    The non syrup recipe probably used a different subsitute such as brown sugar.
