  1. In the original movie, it was Sebastian Shaw who played the ghost of Anakin Skywalker. In the remastered DVD version of the movie, Sebastian Shaw' role as Anakin Skywalker was digitally by Hayden Christensen. Hayden Christensen played Anakin Skywalker in episodes 2, and 3 of the saga.

  2. Yes, in the re-released version of Return of the Jedi, Hayden Christensen now is shown as the ghost of Anakin Skywalker.

  3. You are quite right, they did do that! Sneaky, eh!

  4. They added him as the ghost in the end to newer releases of the DVD.

I think it looks dumb because Luke would not of even known what his father looked like back then.

  5. Yes it is.  It is what has been called the "Ghost Switch" and it is the only one of the changes, aside from the whole who shot first thing with Han & Greedo, Lucas made to the DVD versions of the films that caused the most uproar.

Lucas said that they did it to help fans connect the prequels and the Original Trilogies together with a "common face".  If he had stopped right there most "old timers" like me would have grumbled under our breath about it but would have let it go BUT ... of course Lucas couldn't just leave it at that and added that a Jedi's "Force Ghost" is that of the person they were when they died and that Anakin died when he became Darth Vader.  I will say that this is George's story and he can say whatever he wants to about it but this is one time when his is dead WRONG ... even the databanks at starwars.com don't agree with this statement ... in the bio for Anakin Skywalker it says that he died in his sons arms in the dockingbay on board Death Star II.  You'd think that Lucas would check his own resources before saying a boneheaded thing like that but I guess not.

As for how they did it ... you've pretty much got it right ... they used CGI to superimpose the face of Hayden over that of Sebastine Shaw.

May The Force Be With You ...

  6. When the 6th movie came out Anakin was a portly older guy. Same goes for the VHS releases, but when the movie was released to DVD they edited in the actor from the new movies to have it make sense.

  7. yes he is the ghost but they pasted his face on on because it would not look the same because of age difference

    hope that helped

  8. It's a modified/updated version. It's pretty stupid.
