Question:

Is TV bad or am I getting old?

I'm (cough, cough) 40 and I can't stand Big Brother etc... I've lost interest in the Euro-vision Song Contest and the Olympics, maybe because of the politics and drugs, respectively. Or am I getting too old for these? Have you too got to this age and feel the same or do younger people just agree that most TV viewing is bad?

  1. its just that theres nothing good on.

  2. im 43 and sometimes i seldom watch tv maybe because im fed up of the same thing i watched so i tried something differrent like reading books, watching dvds or solving puzzle. try to find something u will be interested and dont waste ur time watching tv if u will only get bored.

  3. Not at all. I'm 15 and can't stand TV. There's never anything worth watching! I could go on and on, but take a look at this link:

    http://forums.catholic.com/showthread.ph...

  4. well i'm cough cough 50 & i love the Olympics & the Eurovision...but i agree with you about Big Brother....thing is - there are SO many channels to chose from now if you are digital..that there is always something on that i like...maybe you are going through a 'phase'...lol!!  (only kidding!)

  5. Oh no i agree with you im 17 years old and i sit home at night looking through as many channels as i can.... i usually watch mtv like date my mom or something... otherwise i dont find anything else very much interesting... its all fake.

  6. I have to agree TV is a vast land of c**p...  I find myself watching repeats of Seinfeld and thinking why can't they make them like that anymore.  I do like Cold Case.

  7. Nah, dear. TV suxxx. i seldom watch tv b/c theres nothing but diluted garbage on there, esp. on those broadcast networks. the movies suck. the game shows suck [and full of ... not so brilliant folks], the cooking channel has nop more real chefs. its bad.

thanks alot. now im gonna hurl my tv out the window =/

  8. its not age its just that the quality of tv shows and everything has lost interest they try to please ppl with low quality

  9. Wow!...your old!

  10. I'm 16 and I think the programmes you mentioned are completely rubbish. You are not too old. Lol

  11. Its depends on what you like  there are 100s of TV channels now so there is something for every one

  12. first of all, you've named so called reality tv shows.  i love a mystery.  i watch all the csi's, bones, house, ghost whisperer, cold case.  this is not a good time for sitcoms but check out samantha who and the big bang theory.  also, i pretty much guarantee that no one could not like pushing daisies.

  13. It's very subjective, You may not enjoy the programmes I like and vice versa. The tv companies have to cater for al ages and all tastes not just yours.

  14. Lately tv is horrible. Period.

  15. im 18 and cant stand anything in the media today

id swap ages with you if it meant living through the 70s and 80s

though id prefer the 60s too :(

  16. tv really is bad now  the only thibng worth watching are dr who ,house and new tricks and one is a revival and the last one features three actors from the golden age we both must remember.

  17. My husband is 44 and so am I -and yes Shrinking Violet we can still breathe unaided and everything! We got so bored of the rubbish on tv that we did what REALLY old people do; we got an allotment and now we grow all our own veg!. In fact most people on the allotment are about our age and some are younger.

  18. I agree with you, tv is rubbish.

Emmerdale, Corrie- you name it and I'm bored with them all and don't watch much any more.

How much longer are the Bill and Casualty going for , they must both be over 20 years old ?

    Then there's all the repeats on the freeview channels - no wonder they're free . . . . . . . . . . .

  19. I'm close to your age and tv disgust me i cant believe the way  everything is triggered at s*x and violence we are leading are young people down the wrong path young girls all want to be strippers and such  and what happened to good shows that thought valuable lessons

  20. some things on t.v are kinda bad because of all the s*x appeal. but i guess it is because you are kind of old (no offense)  i am 15 but my grandfather is 60 and he is in love with WWE (wrestling).

  21. I HATEEEEE big brother. its the worst show in the world. the olympics are a lot of c**p and ive never watched the song contest thing. i prefer the computer or reading to watching tv now. im 16

  22. TV is c**p and digital, HDTV doesn't make it better as garbage is garbage whether you see it clearly or just smell it.  Sure not going to buy a new tv as cable/satellite  aren't worth it the cost and I just use my set for dvd's any more with an occasional view of Bruckheimer's (CSI, Criminal Minds, Cold Case) shows.  Do you have the Retro channnel on DTV?  Some old classics like Gunsmoke, A-Team. Perry Mason, Ironside are bearable. but I get my news from the internet as hearing the eff word on the six o'clock news is not my cuppa nor is pixel by pixel sexpliotation.  I do get some Britcom on PBS here in the US, thank Gawd or just rely on my primitive VHS or dvd's for old Dr. Who and Are You Being Served?  Yank tv still is 10% decent but 90% not something I want to spend power on and I get the races from a friend who records them from ESPN for me.  Not about age at all, it's about quality and unwillingness to pay for all those commercials on cable which was supposedly free from them initially so why are people paying?

  23. I am 40, and I do not watch TV, because all junks. I certain do not want to pay for more junks. The TV you may enjoy is History, National Geographic, HGTV, and with me I like Fox Soccer or Gol TV since I grew up with Soccer. Olympic is alright, but I only saw men's soccer. There is nothing good on TV, I have to agree. Age has nothing to do with the program that is being aired. There is nothing good worth watching on TV. Simple.

  24. I'm also 40 years old, and TV is the same as it always has been - 90% of it is awful, but the remaining good shows are better than ever.  The trick is to find the good stuff.  I generally read plenty of reviews and also rely on recommendations from friends.  Here are some good shows out currently:

    Battlestar Galactica

    Mad Men

    The Shield

    Pushing Daisies

    Ugly Betty

    Desperate Housewives

    Heroes

    Lost

    Prison Break

    Supernatural

    Reaper (fun, although not brilliant)

    Chuck

    Kyle XY

    Middleman

  25. I'm sorry, but you appear to be suffering from:

"Mid Life 'Mistakes Reality TV Show Rubbish for actual tv programs' Crisis"

Try watching some real tv like a comedy show, or, dare I say it...

Eastenders *gasp* (not quite old enough for that one yet, however, god knows how many million viewers must watch it for some reason)

  26. I feel the same, chief.

Big Bother is scraping the bottom of the barrel.  All it is, is a bunch of crazy people looking for their 15 mins of fame.  After the show is over they  are forgotton.    Eurovision has turned into a soft p**n show. ( only reason to watch it,)

Its a cliche but the old days were better.

The sitcoms & comedys of the '80's are hard to be outclassed.

  27. I'm older than you are and I couldn't agree with you more.  I have hundreds of channels to choose from yet sometimes I have a real problem finding something to watch.  I've never watched a single reality show but I find myself tuning in TCM more and more.  If it weren't for sports, especially football, I would probably be on suicide watch.  That would seem to reinforce your premise that most TV viewing is bad.

  28. I believe TV choice has become so big that there's a lot more rubbish on the box to fill schedules.

I use my Sky+ to record what I want to watch and don't get sucked in to watching things just for the sake of it.

There are still some amazing programmes being made but you've sometimes got to search through the schedules to find them.

  29. i used to like big brother, but i kinda lost interest. the earlier shows were great, but i jsut got boring and repetitive. that doesn't mean i'm not allowed to be sad when they shut down productions in australia this year, haha.  i'm not sure what this 'euro-vision' is, but it it's anything like american/australian idle, i agree with you 100%. i find it to be one of the most boring shows you can find. the olympics aren't bad to have in the background while you're on the computer, for example, but i've never been able to just sit there and watch it for an hour or so. it's not you, tv is just getting worse and worse. even the c**p they make for kids is just rubbish these days, imo.

    we should rebel :)

  30. Well, I reckon that because there are now so many channels, they're all stuffed full of complete S**t and you have to really trawal through it to find the decent stuff.

Also, ITV have got an annoying habit now of showing half a series of something as they like, and dropping a program half way through its run, but will endlessly repeat the same four films over and over agian.

AND, if an OLD comedy is repeated, you know everyone would be watching that rather than any of the other c**p on offer.

So, no it's not you, TV really is cack.

  31. Whoa- guess at 56 I am truly ancient!  Yes  -TV is getting bad.

Dramas and comedies are wretched, with bubble-headed characters I just can't identify with. There are very few characters with any degree of maturity, the men are all juvenile and the women all look like their true calling is to work in Hooters.  News has all gone the infotainment route with far too many fluffy items. And "reality" shows are the worst for the way they debase the meaning of humanity. I watch a lot of National Geographic shows, Animal Planet and PBS stuff like NOVA.

for a giggle i watch Keith Olberman on Countdown. But TV is getting old-older than me!
