Is TV screen bad for baby eyes?

My baby loves to look at the tv screen. I put around few feet far (his playpen and the tv) and he'll enjoy his time watching barney or any other cartoon that i play for him.

He loves to look at my pc screen too, so usually i'll carry him, and sit in front of pc. Will the screen harm his eyes or anything? My ma in law always scold me and said that baby will wear specs very soon.

He's 11mths old and he's been watching tv since 3mths old =X

  1. well my 3 month old loves the tv especially sports because of the bright colours.

  2. yes their eye reflexes are still developing and can be afected by the radiation and the light that emerges form a t.v..if you find it necessary to have him watch t.v like in order to watch educational t.v like discovery kids. then make sure hes not close to the t.v..

PS: dont put him near the pc screen..when he is focusing on a bright area his focal point expands and when hes older he will have trouble focusing on one point.

  3. Anyone that tells you that their baby has never watched TV or gazed at their PC/laptop screen is a liar. I certainly wouldn't recommend leaving him in front of the TV for hours on end with nothing else to look at but if the TV happens to be on in the background for noise or because he has a cartoon he likes on, then I can't see any harm in him looking at the screen.
