  2. Tai chi is chinese and tae kwon do is korean so its safe to say that they are not popular in japan. Kempo karate is well respected because it is traditional but the big two in japan are judo first then kyokushin karate second. Judo is so well engrained into the japanese psyche that it is worshipped along the lines of sumo. Plenty of schools that goes right through to university. Kyokushin is world renowned for being the strongest karate created by mas oyama. The training and sparring is brutal but makes you the most mentally strong karate fighter you can be. It takes minimum 5 and half years to get to black belt and the amount of katas that you will have to learn are extensive. Not for the weak hearted or weak of mind.
