Question:

Is Taking Two Literature Classes at once too much?

I am trying to pick college classes, I am thinking about;

American Lit 1

World Lit 1

Creative Writing

What do you all think? In addition to this I will be working 15 hours a week and I am also a mom to a 3.4 year old who only goes to schol Mon-Wed 8-3.

Do you think I can wing it? Or should I choose different classes? The only other classes I can choose are;

Film Studies

Technical Writing

American Lit (1,2)

World Lit (1,2)

And I will be taking 3 classes, so I have to choose 3.

I want to get good grades; nothing below a B+

  1. Technical Writing will require writing (duh) and so will the typical Lit class, although not as much. Writing requires a lot of time, so I doubt that taking two Lit classes and Tech Writing at the same time will allow you to excel at any of them, especially after factoring in your work and family responsibilities. Check with the instructors and see if there is a 15-page paper required, or several essays. If so, you should probably reconsider the classes.

    IF the Film Studies class is in keeping with your degree program I would see if the professor can give you an idea about the out-of-class assignments and then make a decision.

    Hope this helps, good luck!

  2. Im not sure what the difference between taking these classes in high school or college are( like difficulty level) but im in high school and I have taken american lit and im taking creative writing next year, and so far they are not really hard classes. But I expect that they are a lot harder in college.

  3. you will probably need to take a paired lit class. maybe american lit 1 and 2 would be good. i have taken all of these classes and they are not hard. if you take them together it is much easier to see the parallels that you are supposed to get from both classes at the same time.
