Is Tasmania producing any good AFL footballers nowdays?

They used to a few years back but now I never hear of anyone from Tasmania playing AFL. There must be some but not like the old days. Thats probably half the reason there isnt talk of a team being put in that state.

  1. idk

  2. No. Not any of any real note, anyway.

""""THE AFL says it will continue to concentrate on building new sides on the Gold Coast and in western Sydney before introducing a new team in Tasmania.""""""

Andrew D has virtually put the kiss of death on a new AFL team being set up in Tassie.

  3. To be truthful-----NO.

That state hasn't popped out a decent footy player for the past 20 years, at least. They've only ever come up with two cricket players of any note & no other athletes from any otgher sport.

We may as well cut them adrift & let them drift down to the kiwis.

  4. Yes, there's not a lot, but a few stars.

Royce Hart, Peter Hudson, Rodney Eade, Robert Shaw are some former stars from Tasmania

    Matthew Richardson - B&F Winner

    Alastair Lynch - Premiership player

Chris Bond - Former Bulldogs assistant, now with Freo also played with Freo

Brendon Gale - Chief Executive of the AFL Players Association

    Simon Wiggins

    Jack Riewoldt

    Russell Robertson

    Brady Rawlings

    Jade Rawlings

    Peter Streete

    Tom Lonergan

Even if Tasmania were to get an AFL team, it wouldn't be all Tasmania players, there'd be a few, but not a lot so it doesn't really matter.

  5. The tasmanians need to back something, except i dont think they have a big enough population to back it.

Eg: when you see st kilda go to launceston for their games, they dont get the biggest turn out.

Now that could be cuz the capacity is small.

But im not all for tasmanians getting a team and good players can come from anywhere but its a waste of time and money if they're not going to embrace it!

  6. yeah

    Jack Riewoldt - Richmond

    Justin Sherman - Brisbane

    Tom Collier - Brisbane

    Jason Laycock - Essendon

    Tom Hislop - Essendon

    Colin Garland - Melbourne

    Sam Illes - Collingwood

    Sam Longeran - Essendon

    Brodie Moles - Geelong

    Grant Brichall - Hawthorn

    Then ya have players like

    Russell Robertson - Melbourne

    Matthew Richardson - Richmond

    Brad Green - Melbourne

    Brodie Holland - Collingwood

  7. where to start

as a blues fan youve got wiggins

the tigers have richo and riewalt

    the lions have sherman

    the pies have holland

    the dees have robetson

    the bombers have laycok

    just to name a few

admitadly there aint too many stars but that wasnt your question

edit afterthought//// where are the players of note from the gold coast or the western suburbs of sydney

come to think of it could sydney or brisbaine field a totaly home grown side and be competative i dont think so

  8. Good question !.... Now WHY dont they put an AFL team in TASSIE....give the State a boost!! Why talk about a new team on the Gold Coast or a 2nd team in SYD ??

Give it to the "APPLE ISLE" !!

  9. Ok and here's a question back to you ...

when South Melbourne moved to Sydney ... How many actual Sydney Siders played in the Sydney team ...

Now I am NOT refering to NEW SOUTH WELSHMEN ( such as David Murphy, Bernard Toohey .. because they played in the Riverina and when it comes to sport the Riverina was always MORE AFL than it ever was Rubgy ...) ...

Tassie is an Australian Rules state ... and of course they deserve a team .. even if at first it has to be *stocked* by many players from other states .. I mean it wouldn't be the first time that's happened ... ( remember the Brisbane Bears??)

Give them their own team and THEY will eventually be able to side it  majoritorily...

EDIT: they have gone backwards perhaps because the young kids their possibly think WHAT'S THE POINT OF PLAYING FOOTY ... give tassie a team and I bet that all changes....

  10. No. They are not.

The devils that they are producing nowdays are smaller as well!

  11. yes hawthorn player grant birchall

  12. THE guys above have answered well i think, but you are missing the point blues fan, what has that got to do with having a team there,

1- how many champions have come out of west Sydney lately, make that for ever.

2- how many from the gold plated coast have been champions.

do you see what i am saying to you, the players would come from all over Australia, it makes no difference where they are from, any uncontracted players would be taken for free, the clubs get nothing for them, it is unfair, almost illegal, why should clubs bring along players only to have them stolen by these new clubs, leave the game alone, is what i say. MORE MONEY, THAT'S ALL IT'S ABOUT.

  13. Yeah they still produce good footballers
