Is Taylor Phinney favourite for the Olympics Time Trial event?
Taylor Phinney has received specialised training in his hometown Boulder, Colorado to ensure that he reaches the 2012 Olympics Time Trial event in supreme form.
The cyclist is determined to succeed during the 44 kilometre Individual Time Trial Olympics event scheduled on August 1st, 2012.
Phinney has shown tremendous legs at the Giro d’Italia and the Giro del Trentino, claiming the time trial stages at both the events.
He missed the Olympics Road Race medal with a whisker and had to settle for the fourth overall spot with a deficit of 8 seconds on the race leader.
Alexander Vinokourov of Team Kazakhstan wins the gold medal while Rigoberto Uran Uran (Colombia) and Alexander Kristoff (Norway) securing the silver and bronze medals respectively.
In order to ensure his supreme result at the Olympics Time Trial event, the American has designed a 44km-course almost identical to the one in the central London.
While commenting on the coming Olympics race, he told TimesCall.com, “Of course, the road surface is different, but in a time trial, a lot is in your head and being able to suffer".
"It's just being able to push through any physical boundaries for a solid 50 minutes and sit in a very uncomfortable place for that amount of time".
"If I raced, I would've come here with a solid base of fitness but not necessarily the specific work that I felt I needed to achieve what I want to achieve here in the time trial".
Phinney will face tough challenge from numerous cyclists that have gathered to prove their strengths at the biggest sporting event of the year.
The winner of the race will rule the cycling world for the next four years and those who miss out will have to wait for almost 1500 days to have another go at the Olympics gold.
Bradley Wiggins (UK) is a definite favourite to grab to secure the top podium spot especially after his top performance at the Tour de France 2012.
Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland, Tony Martin of Germany, Luis Leon Sanchez of France and Sylvain Chavanel of France are all favourites to do some magic on the Wednesday race.
