Is the American Dream of a large house way, way out in the suburbs with 2 or 3 cars or SUVs the root of all America's problems (Oil shortage Crisis, Iraq War) AND Global Warming?

  1. america isn't the only country contributing to global warming. but it seems 80 % of amercians feel the need to drive an suv and that prob contributes to the gas problem we have now. also the iraq war is bush's fault.

  2. The American Dream is not the problem. Because the dream is a small house with a white picket fence, two kids and a car. That's the actual American dream.

  3. No, it isn't.     The case that somehow America's and Americans' success comes at the material expense of people in other countries fails as a matter of economics.

So instead of accepting that they were wrong, the people who argued that point unsucessfully just made up a new argument, that somehow the earth itself suffered because of America's and Americans' success.

Green is just the new Red.   Gore is Erlich is Veblen is Malthus.    It's the same tired, old, many-times-discredited ideas re-stated but still just as wrong.

  4. no, because global warming isnt real!!

  5. It is certainly part of it. Most Americans have a sense of entitlement,I want it and I want it now with no thought for the future.

  6. You really have some issues. Oil is a cheap source of energy for billions of people. why would we want to restrict our use of it?  By one of your posts, it sounds like you are rebelling against your father who was associated with oil co's. Therapy might help.

  7. NO! The problem is that the earth is its own system and will change as it needs to.  Global Warming has occured before.  look up the little ice age and you will see.  The earth will warm and cool in it's cycle.  And America isn't the only country with high carbon emmissions.  China and India emit lots of carbon too!  As for the Oil shortage: It's not a renewable resource so the world will run out eventually...nothing we can do about that really.

  8. It is funny how Iraq is supposedly all about oil.  If that were true, then we would not be going through the stuff that we are going through now.  Liberals are way too far out of this world, assume anything and everything in order to pass their agenda and go immediately to conspiracy theories about everything.

  9. What a lot of people do not understand is we are actually IN an Iceage.  It began around 300 years ago and started to settle in in the early 1800's.  Yet do to indrustry and the devolpment of almost every nation on the planet, we have not only reversed the effects of this encroaching iceage we've started a warming trend.

    Thank you CO2

  10. we are what we are, one way or another we will not exist eventually and the earth would either reclaim and rebuild itself to the utopian paradise it once was or it will shrivel up and die. It all rests in how much more we can squeeze out of her before we are gone...

  11. Not even close, China creates a new coal factory every week and doesn't have any of the environmental laws that the US does but yet Americans are always to blame for the worlds problems. Besides, global warming is real but it is not caused by humans. It was found that the hottest decade on record was in the 30's when they had that whole "Dust Bowl" deal going on. Al Gore said the hottest decade on was in the 90's but he had false information. This information was made public but the correction did not make headline news like every piece of global warming information did. The Earth is in a natural cycle of warming and there is nothing that people can do about it. You have to make sure you (thats a general you, not you, per se) have all the facts before you make blind assumptions about global warming and how it is caused. Just because a former Vice President said something is so, doesn't mean that he is right.

  12. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Also the Saudis not producing enough oil to go around. Along with Nigeria At war and not producing any at all. We import over 65% of what we need. And over 81 billion bearles just sitting up in Alaska. To add to all of this our Gov. will not even put the solutions on the floor for debate. We are in for a ruff fall and winter. They wont even discuse the issue of globel warming.

  13. No my dream is green.. More and More Green for me.

  14. Only in the minds on doomsayer nuts like you, moron.

  15. The way we have done it so far, yes.

But it doesn't have to be.  We know how to build houses that passively hold their own temperature.  We know how to build electric cars (for driving to the commuter train station) and plug-in hybrids (for long trips).  We also know how to run rental car agencies like ZipCar or Hertz for a vehicle you only need some of the time.   Suburban sprawl living could be totally green, though it would be more expensive than city living.

  16. Sorry, it's more like having a home and a way to get around. Be it electric car, train or Prius, Americans choose the means they can afford. If it's not affordable, then it's not reasonable...

  17. We could have had cars that uses no gas at all over 20 years ago.  When this started back in 72 they already had what was needed to make gas effcent cars and did not.  Pork belly poltics and big corps wanted to keep making huge profits.  GAs is so high now yet oil companies are making record profits.  Sounds like there is a lot of room for it to go down.  Oh wait Bush owns a oil company hummmmm I wonder if that as anything to do withit.
