I'm currently in the process of finding the best education in order to become a Restaurateur (Desert Bar & Bakery owner to be exact) I have always had a passion for food and sweets, but I have never taken the time to gain the experience needed. Now that I am 20 years old, I feel that I can really dedicate myself and I would really love to create beautiful wedding cakes, cupcakes, brownies, etc. Anyway, I have been to multiple campuses of both the Art Institute, and Le Cordon Bleu. These schools claim they offer the best education, but then they seem to only be interested in getting their co-mission.

So my real question is, if these schools really give a good education or should I just travel to New York and attend the French Culinary Institute or the Culinary Institute of America?

  1. The Culinary Institute, in Hyde Park, NY, is the best culinary school in the US. That one is worth the money. If you can get in there, and you have the flexibility in your life to go to NY for school, I'd strongly suggest you go there.

It's very good for pastry and breads. A lot of top pastry chefs came out of that school. It would set you up well to first get a very good job, and once you work a while and know the ins and outs of the business, you could open up your own place.
