I wish! Gas is $3.97 a gallon. Eggs are $2.98 a dozen, houses are in the 300,000 and up for anything decent, and you need to make close to 90,000 per household to be able to afford a home, 2 cars, mortgage, property taxes, and insurances.

not even close. the lowest cost areas of california are still much higher than the midwest

Not at all, the cost of living here is getting pretty high.  Average home price is near $250,000.  A decent 2 bedroom apartment is $1200.00.
