hypothetically if you could get a long enough pole and suspend a device into the ionsphere, could the ions be used as usable electric energy?

  1. The answer is no. The problem is: where there are ions, there are electrons as well. The net charge of the ionosphere is therefore zero.

    Ions are nothing more than atoms with one or more electrons torn off, due to the impact of cosmic rays, which are mainly protons from the Sun, accelerated in the Earth's magnetic field.
