Is Theo Epstein's judgement gone?

seriously. in the Nomar deal he got 2 players back that fit the teams needs... since then:

Gange last year for Murphy who is 10th in the AL in RBIs and a LHP and a bullpen pitcher... Plus the whole SS problem... plus Dice K... plus since the 04 ws we have seen him go with: Wade Miller, David Wells, Matt Clement... let Arroyo go for Willie Mo ... and didn't sign D. Lowe, who is still pitching great.

And I'm sure you're familiar with how the Red Sox botched the Manny option this year by now.

Who would you like to see replace him if you think he's beyond the pale?

  1. Yeah... he sucks.  Only 2 championships in the last 4 years.  d**k-K is not exactly a flop.  He didn't trade his top prospects like Elsbury or his pitchers.  How can you say that he mishandled Manny.  Manny wore out his welcome with the team and his teammates.  You can't have someone like that on your team.  I respect him more for not putting up with that douchebag.   Trading for Beckett was a pretty good deal even though H-Ram is such a stud.  They needed the pitching.

  2. as if he ever had any wisdom or judgement...

  3. He obviously understands the concept of a T-E-A-M. Good job by Theo.

  4. did he ever have any?

  5. Nah, what about the Beckett and Lowell deal, J.D. Drew signing, letting Pedro go just in time and its hard to say how Lowe would really be doing now in Boston since its a much better division with much more pressure which is bad for a head case like Lowe.

As for the Manny option, 20 millions is absurd for a player with similar numbers to Jason Bay who will be getting 7.5 next year.  He wanted out and a lot of players were just sick of his attitude at this point.  They released Nomar, Pedro, Damon, Nixon and Mueller just before their health or performance sharply declined so how about giving Theo the benefit of the doubt for two months on this one.

  6. What annoys me is everybody second guessing the GM.

You go out there and try to get Ramirez to play when he isn't injured and quit bellyachin' about the way he's been treated.

h**l- 20 million bucks and you still got a whiner- it was time to cut Manny loose.

  7. I think he has made good moves.

  8. Theo is a great GM. He's gone in some weird ways over the past few years but I have learned to trust him. He knows what hes doing. I'm personally happy he got rid of Manny and we got Jason Bay. Hes a good slugger and I'm sure will get the job done

  9. Gagne was a smart move. He was LIGHTS out (Sub 2 ERA, 0 blow saves) in Texas. Murphy was a OF and the Red Sox had Coco, Drew, Manny and they knew that Ellsbury was a better player. The Sox needed bullpen help so they got the best reliever on the market. So it didn't work out. He is not a psychic. Based on the information he had, it was a smart move.

David Wells was a aging pitcher who was losing his stuff every year. Matt Clement got nailed on the head. How can you expect him to be the same? They didn't resign Lowe because once again, the Red Sox knew they had the resources in the minors with Lester and Buchholz.

And this was a incredible move by Theo. Yes most people are whining a lot about losing Manny but Jason Bay is a shade worse, if it all. But Bay is younger, better defensively, faster, and the most important thing is you know he is going to be on that field and playing. I admit that Manny's antics aren't a distraction to the team. But the possibility that he will have another "injury" and sit out the last 40 games is unacceptable. This move will pay off.
