  1. From thr Route Schedule looks like you are going to be on the Lake Shore Limited and the Sunset Limited to get to LA.

Though you could take a third, if you really want a nice view.

Hit the Lake Shore Limited, California Zephyr, then The Coast Starlight.  But thats only if you really want to take your time. Ha Ha!

  2. As JetDoc points out, you can do it, but with a change of train in Chicago.

There are several routings, with varying travel times.  Figure the trip will take about four days.

  3. yeah you will need to transfer (change train) in Chicago. don't worry we are not a small town that has nothing. anyway willie you are here you can have some real Chicago stile Pizza.

as the train goes you have the Southwest Chief from Las Angeles to Chicago (I think you at lest have to spend one night in Chicago) then get on the Lake Shore Limited to New York. both trains leave every day of the week in both directions.

P.S. the Southwest Chief the descendant of the "Super Chief" and Lake Shore Limited descendant of The 20th Century Limited but I know most people know that. but if don't your library should something about them.

  4. Two trains total....and remember, "real men ride coach."

  5. Most trains that go to Los Angeles go back eventually, or else they have to shove them into the ocean and Amtrak hates that.

  6. There is not one continuous train, You'll have to change trains in Chicago to make the trip. Go to the Amtrak web site to look at schedules and prices. I'd highly recommend booking a bedroom or a roomette for a trip of that distance. Otherwise, you'll have to sleep sitting up in one of the coach cars for 3-4 days.
