  1. I agree with Cenobia. Sony is working really hard on lowering production costs. May be, when Sony will reduce costs really low and start to gain profits not only from games, but from consoles too - it'll release PS3 Slim. Right now PS3 repeats steps of PS2, so I don't see any reasons not to make a slim version with a wide range of colors. It'll boost PS3 sales.

  2. First of all Edward G is an idiot. Sony won't "pull away" from the PS3, and won't stop making exclusives. Games is where they actually make a profit, so making less makes no sense. Also, bluray is a huge win for Sony, and the future sales of bluray movies and products more than makes up for any loss incurred by selling the PS3 at a loss (which Microsoft does too, btw). I'm not sure if he's a fanboy or just ignorant.

As for the original question, I would say there is a high probability for a PS3 slim. As technology advances it will get smaller and cheaper to make. Sony will likely redesign the PS3 to make it cheaper and more efficient in the future. A slim model would also help improve sales which is always a plus. Of course, I'm just guessing here, since I don't know much about the hardware inside the PS3, but I would assume that is Sony's plan. I wouldn't expect it for 3 or more years though. The PS3 is still sold at a loss since they sell it for cheaper than they make it, but once they can produce them cheaply enough I wouldn't say its to far fetched to expect a slimmed down version.

Honestly I wouldn't wait for it, though. It's going to be a few years, and you'll miss out on the great games coming this fall and in the future.

  3. nope not ever they would lose to much money if they did that :)ava06

  5. while it is a little early to judge, i would say no there will not be any significant hardware changes to the ps3. while there is already different models available, 20,40,60, and 80 gigabyte hard drives available, this only changes memory and ps2 and 1 compatibility. the reason Sony released the ps2 and PSP slim is because of the success of both consoles. chances are that with the 360 and wii selling more, what we will see in the coming years is less firmware updates and exclusive games, and more 3rd party games as sony pulls away from the ps3 and tries to cut its losses.
