Question:

Is There Something In Your Body That Can Attract Multiple Lighting Strikes?

I talked to a woman around her 50s who told me she had been struck by lighting 8 times in her lifetime! At first I didn't believe her, but she described each time she had been struck.

One time while she was washing dishes, she had the window open & the lighting hit the faucet, went through the water & into her.

Another time, had been when she was standing at her screen door.

She's never been struck more than once each time, but it happens over a period of time. Also, she said it runs in her family & everyone has either died or been struck by lighting all their lives. If it runs in her family, does this mean that they're walking lighting rods? How is that possible? Or is it just bad luck?

  1. I'm not aware of anything in the human body that would "draw" a lightning strike.  Some people have different electrical resistance, but that would not effect lightning.

  2. I heard about some other guy that got struck several times.  According to the link below, the lady would be the world record holder.  She may have somewhat better conductivity because of moist skin but it is hard to imagine something much beyond that.  I went through what they called a lightning storm in Georgia and there were probably 5 strikes a minute in an area the size of a football field.  It was really scary.  I am guessing she lives in such a place and probably spends time in really bad locations.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/un... to the Guiness Book of World Records, the record for being struck by lightning is held by park ranger Roy Sullivan (aka the 'human lightning conductor') who survived seven strikes between 1942 and 1977. In his various encounters he had his hair set alight, lost his big toe nail and eyebrows and suffered injuries to his arms, legs, chest and stomach."

  3. Absolutely!
