  1. Red and White cable.

  2. What kind of receiver have you got?

If it is an all-in-one, tell us more so we can help you.  Brand, vintage, etc.

Example, Pioneer and Yamaha systems offer (and require) an iPod dock for use with a remote...

  3. If your receiver has RCA audio inputs (the red and white outlets), just get a Y-Audio cable.

One one end, it has two RCA ports (red and white), which you plug into the receiver. On the other end, it has a stereo plug, which you plug into your iPod's headphone port.

Most home theater receivers that are even somewhat decent has at least one or two RCA inputs. They should be labeled something like "Input 1" or "AUX 1".

The only issue is - you won't be able to control the iPod with the home theater's remote. If you want to skip to a specific song, you'll have to either get up and change it manually (just like if you had headphones on), or get a VERY long cable (which starts to get pricey).

Those cables should only cost about five bucks at Radioshack.

  4. yes
