  1. IF you could afford such a site you would not need to use it because other would do your genealogy for free.

Ah, yeah. BUT if you can afford it, let me know and I will set the site up for you...heheh. Gladly!

  2. Have you tried the LDS family search site ?

    http://www.familysearch.org/

This is used a great deal, however I will caution you to verify whatever information you find on the site, because often there are mistakes.

I have used it as a tool to do my genealogy over the years. One relative of mine according to the records that people have sent them was married to the same man in three country's on the same day. Not unheard of with todays air traffic, however  it would not have been possible in the 1600's.

Always verify your results, and record where you found them.

I wish you much success in your search for your ancestors.

    Sara Leonard

  3. i hope some one answer's your question, for i"d like to know, my self.

  4. No.

Think... do you want someone on a computer to have your private information, an open invitation to id theft??

The normal route is to work back OFFLINE to where you reach your gr grandparents, or other persons who you know are your relatives, but they are dead, and no one can connect them to you, without your knowledge.

This is for your personal protection.

  5. i agree with the first three answers.

    good luck.

  6. If someone has told you they found their family tree on some website, please tell them unless they have verified it they don't know if what they have is accurate or not.

No, you can't put a name of a living person iin and find their family tree.  Genealogy websites are very very cautious about information on living people as it can be an invasion of privacy and can lead to identity theft.

There are tons of genealogy websites, some free some you have to pay in order to subscribe.  Some have family trees. Some have records.  Some have mailing list and message boards.

Ancestry.Com has all of it.  If you find it too pricey, your public library might have a subscription to it you can use.  They have all the U.S. censuses through 1930. The 1940 and later are not available to the public yet. They also have U.K. censuses.  They have military and immigration records and indexes to vital records of many U.S. states.  That doesn't mean they have all records.

Family Trees on any website, free or paid, are not submitted by experts working for the website but folks like you and me who subscribe to them.  There are errors.  You might see different info on the same people from many different subscribers.  Then you will see repeatedly the same info from different subscribers on the same people but that is no guarantee at all it is correct. A lot of people copy without verifying.

If you are really serious about finding your family history, there are lots of good regulars on this boards that can give you some great tips and advice.  Don't expect to find it all online.
