Question:

Is This A Suitable Meal For A 8 Month Old?

I like to feed my son the things i'm having instead of purees and such. I'm kind of worried that by doing this, I might not be giving him the right portion. Would the Gerber Lil Entrees for toddlers be alright if I cut/mashed them up?

  1. Your own food is far healthier than overprices prepackages tv dinners.  If you cook from scratch I guarantee your food doesn't have Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Powdered Cooked Beef, Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum, Maltodextrin, or Mono- and Diglycerides.

An 8 month old should be capable of feeding themselves, no need to mash.

A "serving" is about 2 tbsp or less at that age, but really just let your baby eat as much or as little as they want as long as they take enough breastmilk or formula.

  2. Gerber Graduates? they are so high in sodium. I'd never give them to my baby so i don't think you should give them to yours. make a healthy meal and freeze baby size portions!!

seriously why the thumbs down? so you think a t.v. diner for a baby is any healthier then a t.v. dinner for an adult??? seriously?

If you want some 'grab and eats' for your baby make a few extra servings the next few healthy meals you make and freeze some for baby that's just as hassle free as the Gerber Graduates are and they aren't full of preservatives and sodium!!!!!!

  3. I used to feed my kids table food I didn't have money for alot of baby food.Usually they what let me know in their own way they when they had enough

  4. I like to mash up the veggies that I'm eating & feed them to my daughter. She loves them! I learned a lot from a web site about what a child should be eating & when. When your son turns his head or isn't interested in the food stop feeding him. Food should be a source of nutrients, not a source of comfort.

And remember their little bodies have a hard time digesting things that have a lot of ingredients in them or that have been processed so keep it simple.

  5. As long as you mash the food well enough your son doesn't choke on it, he should be okay.  Just feed him a spoon of each until he is full or contented.

  6. Yes my 11 month old son LOVES those! I always mush emup a bit more so he can eat em better and he prefers those over pureed foods anyday. I also give him what Im eating just in little pieces like chicken, steamed veggies, even lasagna and he loves it all!

  7. As long as your son is handling regular food well, go for it. Just make sure he's not getting too much sodium or spices because he's a little young to process that stuff well. The reason it's a good idea to use baby food is because you're more likely to feed him a balanced diet. So make sure if you're feeding regular foods that you give him plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits and the right forms of dairy products. Babies like yogurt and it's good for them. You can cook your carrots and potatoes so they can be mashed, then don't add a bunch of butter or salt to his portion. Make sure you grind all of his meats first because I'm sure his mouth isn't loaded with teeth yet. You can do that with a couple of forks and tear it up into tiny pieces.

It's cheaper to feed your baby regular foods too; although it's handy to have some jar foods around for when you're out and about at meal time.
