Is This An Invasion Of Privacy?

My school this year (2008-2009) is doing this thing where whatever you do, where ever you go, whatever you type they can see. I mean, thats good in some ways. Like, to keep you safe and see if you are going on MySpace (its not allowed at my school) and stuff. But they can see your e-mail, what you say in your e-mail and Im pretty sure they can get into it because they can get past the password protected thing. I mean like, e-mail to me is private. And if Im sending a private, personal e-mail to someone that is meant for me and the reciever and me and the reciever ONLY, I dont think thats right. Cause if we are allowed free time on the computer, thats when I check my e-mail. I usually just use my iPod touch to check everything. And they can see everything I do on that also. I just think thats an invasion of my privacy to me in more ways than others. I dont think its right.

  1. It may be your privacy, but it is their computers and I guess that's just the way it is. It probably has to do less with everone's personal chat and more to do with liability situations. Ex:if a couple kids planned a hostage/shooting/bombing situation via the school computers.

  2. Yes i think it's an invasion of privacy, but is the email account from the school? Or it's something like YAHOO or HOTMAIL?

  3. Because you are on school property you are using their equipment. Businesses already use methods similar to this to make sure their employees are doing their job instead of checking emails.

What you are going to have to do is either 1)Continue and not care or 2) Use your computer at home to send personal e-mails because they are well within their rights to monitor their PCs to make sure they are used properly.
