Is This Rude About Marriage Comment.?

Question

I am single and not married and so are 3 of my friends. We all do not want to marry. So, one day I invited my 3 friends over for dinner, and my friend asked if I ever wanted to get married? My mother pipes in: "She doesn't want to get married because she has low self esteem."

Now, is this rude for me, or does it apply to me and my friends what my mother said??. Yes, it was hurtful.

What your mother said was rude.  There is no obligation to get married.

Well is it true? If you truly believe that you do not have low self esteem, then why should something like that bother you?

People only get offended by comments when they are actually true.

And who cares what your mother says, about anything. She's not you, nor does she live your life for you.

So what, you don't want to get married. That is your business, not hers.

Sounds to me like she was directing it just at you.  The comments posted saying that you must have low self esteem or you wouldn't have gotten upset is BS.  I don't have low self esteem but I would of been mad/hurt if my mom said that about me.  

Yes it was a very rude hurtful thing for your mother to say and I personal think you should say something to her about it.  Even if your mother thinks what she said is true, she still had no business saying it.

She was rude to be eavesdropping and then to comment like that was even ruder.  Marriage is not for everyone and you have the right to stay single if that's what you want.

i dont think low self esteem matters when it comes to marriage. i have very low self esteem and am married. i always wanted to be. i think it was kinda rude....

I think your mom was referring to you - She said "she".

That was very rude .
