  1. Yeah it is 250,000 evacuated

  2. This has now surpassed the 2003 "Cedar Fire" with over 375,000 acres burned or burning.  Over 1,500 structures have been damaged or destroyed; 500,000 people ordered to evacuate; and firefighting resources tapped as far away as Montana.

Currently 15 "significant" fires remain unchecked with more appearing on the map.  NBC is reporting that by the end of the day roughly one-in-three homes in San Diego County will be under mandatory evacuation orders.

I use to work with the DNR and if models hold true (and the projected weather patterns come into play) this will slowly come under control by about Friday, with additional containment improving over the weekend.  By this time though as much as a 30-35% more damage will have been done.

What is concerning is that this isn't from poor land management or lack of timely burns.  Most of these areas were hit in 2003 and 1999.  This seems to be a combination of weather and environmental extremes converging together to form a sort of "perfect firestorm".

The worst fire season in U.S. history was the "Big Burn" of 1910.  The bottom link can tell you more about that.

  3. h**l is rising above ground

  4. Yeah I think so, I knew someone would find away to get rid of that place! lol  No, it does such, all the people having to leave their homes and knowing that many of them will come back to ashes is kinda sad.

  5. No its not. There are several fire, even combined, they would not be the biggest fire in California ever. The biggest single fire in Cali. was 280,000+ acres (the cedar fire of 2003) . All of these fire combine total 59,200. But, since its in a populated area with lots of celebs. people make a big deal about it. But ithey are growing extremely  fast.

  6. I think it is. I think someone planned them. What a coinsidence that mostly all counties in california have a fire....

  7. No it is not.

This fire is the result of a lack of controlled burns.

  8. i believe its a competition between the Cedar Fire and this one. The weird coincidence is that this fire in Southern California (Witch Creek Fire) was started Sunday, October 21, 2007 and the Cedar Fire was started October 25, 2003. Only 4 days later and it would have happened on the anniversary. I guess October is not a good month for Southern California weather.

  9. Don't know but it's crazy, driving on the freeway and it looked like if I was in some other planet because there was a color orange in the atmosphere, due to the sun hitting the smoke in the air I guess?? It also got my F***ng car dirty, had just washed it too
