I have a 3 month old in my daycare - he has thrush. Can he stay? Will the other children or myself get it? I am handling his bottles...do I need to send him home?

  1. yes thrush is very contagious but only through saliva and only if it has not been treated. It is usually only passed from mom to baby and back from breastfeeding. As long as you wash your hands with soap and keep everything rather clean you should be fine as well as the other kids.

  2. Thrush is a yeast infection.  He should be ok,  just be sure he takes his medication, and wash your hands.

  3. Wash hands after feeding him.  Things should be ok!

However... make sure he gets treated.

(Gentian violet is my favorite - and it doesn't require a doctor.)

  4. Thrush is contagious.  A mother and baby can pass it back and forth several times through nursing and such.

If the baby's parents are aware of it and are treating it, and a doctor has said he is okay to be in daycare, I would just be extra careful.  If you just noticed it and you aren't sure the parents even know, definitely give them a call and ask that they take their baby to the doctor.  I wouldn't let him back until a doc has said it's okay to be in daycare.

    Just my suggestions...
