Is Tiger Woods an overrated golfer?
When Tiger Woods turned pro, he literally dazzled on the golf courses with his performance and many thought that he is a great player in the making.
It has been sixteen years since Tiger first joined the tour and since then, there has been no turning back. The former world number one has won every title that was on the offer.
So far in his career of sixteen years, Tiger has won fourteen majors, he is second to the legend Jack Nicklaus. Only Sam Snead has more tour victories than Tiger but, considering the era in which Tiger is playing, his 72 wins look substantially better than
Snead’s 82.
The competition and skill level has definitely reached a new level. Tiger competed with his senior generation and left no stone unturned, as he literally ruled the golfing world for so many years.
Currently, he is playing with an upcoming generation of golfers, which led by none other than Rory McIlroy. Even these young golfers have not really yet achieved what Tiger had achieved at their age, and the stats clearly show the real picture.
So far this season on the PGA Tour, Tiger has won three tournaments. Only Rory McIlroy has won more tournaments than him.
He is second on the money tour list and this proves the fact that, in the major tournaments, he comes up with the goods.
Even at the majors, he has been playing well. It is only his finishes that have pulled him down this season in the major events.
The only dark spot which marks the legend’s career is his divorce in 2010, which preceded the famous scandal that broke out. Yes, Tiger suffered after that incident.
His game went to a low level but it he is back with his best, although it has been four years since he last won the major.
However, many people still believe that he will surpass the record of the great Jack Nicklaus.
Many pundits have started arguing that he is an overrated player but these so called experts think with their minds already made up, they do not really consider the facts.
In the recently hyped up rivalry between the Tiger Woods and the current world number one, Rory McIlroy, Tiger has had the upper hand on most of the occasions.
Even in the Turkish Airways World Golf Finals, he beat Rory with ease.
The only black spot on his career is probably his record in the Ryder Cup but, considering the fact that people have such high hopes and expectations, a player is bound to have his bad day. After all nobody is perfect.
