Is Tiger Woods right now the best golfer to ever play?

I know he will probably break Nicklaus' record in about 5 years or so, but if he doesn't, should he still be considered the greatest golfer to ever live? Like right now would you still put Nicklaus in front of him?

I watch old matches of the greats all the time and then I see what tiger can do and i think there is no doubt he is the best.

Whether you like or dislike him as I do he is the greatest golfer ever to live like it or not he is the smartest most prepared golfer or athlete to walk this earth. The reason I do not like him as a golfer is that he is so dominant and  personally as for the sport of golf it is not good to have one that is so dominant.  As an athlete and how he gives back I give him all the credit in the world for the fact he is a class human being.

If Tiger woods were to quit today, he would be considered one of the best golfers to ever play the game. Until he beats Jack Nicklaus, only then would he be considered the BEST golfer EVER to play the game of golf. Barring injury or death, I see no reason why Tiger shouldn't pass Jack Nicklaus's overall record. In the short time Tiger became a pro golfer, he has achieved more success in this short time then ANY golfer that has played pro golf in the same amount of time that Tiger has played. I believe Tiger will stand the test of time through decades of playing before anyone else will come out and actually excel beyond Tiger's pro capabilities and records.

I know for a fact that John Daly can smoke more cigarettes than Tiger can in one sitting . I know for fact that  John Daly can drink more alcohol than Tiger can . Having said that John DALY can't carry Tiger's jock strap .  TIGER IS A GOLF STUD  PERIOD .   There a lot of people that get tired of him winning all the time . Think about that statement ...............tired of Tiger winning all the time !!  IF the players are tired of it  then   do something about it otherwise ...................BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME AND THE NEXT AND THE NEXT  ........

• Win four consecutive major championships (2000 U.S. Open - 2001 Masters).

• Win three majors in the same year (2000).

• Win the U.S. Open by 15 strokes. (Nicklaus's largest margin of victory in golf's most grueling test was four shots.)

• Win back-to-back British Opens (2005-2006) and PGA Championships (2006-2007).

• Never cough up a 54-hole lead at a major.

• Win eight tournaments in a season. (Woods has done it three times.)

• Win at least five tournaments in five consecutive seasons. (Nicklaus topped out at three.)

• Win seven consecutive starts.

• Win tournaments in Dubai, Japan, Thailand and Germany.

• Make 142 consecutive cuts. (Jack was spent after 105.)

• Finish first on the money list four consecutive years. (From 1999-2002; this year will be three in a row.)

• Win three consecutive U.S. Amateurs (on top of three consecutive U.S. Juniors).

I hear people argue Jack had better competition...I think that's BS, Jack was just not as dominant when compared to his competition. That made the competition look better.

He's very close to being the best ever ! I don't think we've seen a golfer dominate and win tournaments the way he has !

Also keep in mind that many people think he isn't because he isn't white ! Sad but true !

His accomplishments are tremendous early, but so are daly's,singhs, mickelson and guys like adam scott who he will have to compete against for years!

He probably is.  Barring serious injury he will eclipse Nicklaus' records of major wins etc and what is amazing is how good all the players on the PGA tour are and yet his percentage of wins vs tournaments played is so high.  Only time will tell where he ends up in Golf history, but we are watching something special when he plays.
