  1. Yes it is safe during the day. But, do not stay after dark. I always take the Shuttle bus from San Ysidro.  It costs $12 each roundtrip, and is well worth it.  Tijuana is not very clean although there are safe restaurants to eat like Burger King. I would not eat or drink anything from the street vendors except bottled or canned drinks.  It is a fun place to go to shop.  I bring back serapes (mexican blankets) for about $4-5 each.  You can barter your price so always think cheap and you will get a better deal.  Do not buy any gold jewelry!  It is all fake even though it has a 14 kt tag on it.  I love the antelope and eel wallets.  I have purchased the stuffed frogs also.  They are interesting mantle pieces!  Be sure not to purchase any prescription drugs- the pharmacies sell everything: Viagra, Steroids & Tylenol 3 over the counter. Do not risk breaking the laws of the US.  It is not worth it.  Alcohol is a great deal down there.   I always bring back a couple bottles of Cuervo. Have fun...it is a blast.  Remember to bring your passports.

  2. No, it's not safe. They sell stolen goods on the streets and people get kidnapped. There is a gang of prostitutes on every corner with more VD than all the antibiotics in the world can cue.

  3. When I lived in California I used to go to Tijuana every other weekend, If you are looking for luxury NO! is not luxurious at all it is also dirty but most people go because is quite fun. I loved it. Now starting 2008 you do need a passport to be able to cross the border back into the US so yes tell your parents that they do need a passport to go even if you are just driving back. I hope this helped you. And if you go I hope you have lots of fun.. =)

  4. I'd be 'iffy' about going there, especially if you have children with you. It really isn't very safe.Yes, you currently do need a passport to go there. However, there is no border charge. Tijauana is pretty dirty, so don't be expecting it to be a nice, manicured, lavish, resort hot spot or anything. There definitely is endless entertainment and nightlife though [very dangerous at night]. Here are some attractions: Bullfighting, fishing, Greyhound racing, rodeo, shopping, whale watching, Rosarito Beach, Jai Alai,Tijuana Cultural Center, Tijuana Museum, and art galleries.
