Is Tinted Moisturizer and Foundation The Same Thing?

Okay so I went to Macy's last week and we went to the Estee Lauder counter. So the lady put this really nice foundation on me and I liked it a lot! But.. she told me they didn't have that in stock. So she tried this tinted moisturizer. So my mom bought that for me and we got all these free gifts because we did a pre-sale. so we just picked up the stuff today and I tried the moisturizer and it doesn't work!! I guess it makes my face look a tad different. but it also makes me look oily and shiny :(. So.. I didn't know if they are supposed to be the same thing. Tinted moisturizer and foundation. Since they both give you some color. Well anyone please help me! Also can anyone tell me if I'm able to return the moisturizer and wait till the foundation comes in stock. ( I opened the moisturizer because I needed to try it. So what should I tell the people there?)

tinted moisturizer just moisturizes while foundation is actually make up lol

if you dont like to wear a lot of make up then tinted moisturizer is a good substitute for foundation

i think the tinted moisturizer you got was more concealer type .

cause tinted moisturizer &foundation ARE very different .

im pretty sure you return it , they ripped you off[x

tinted moisturizer is exactly that. tinted moisturizer. it moisturizes your skin while giving you sheer coverage, so obviously it's gonna make your face shiny and feel sticky because it moisturizes it. people who don't like to wear a lot of makeup use it. Foundation provides medium or full coverage and some kinds also control shine. as long as you still have the receipt you should be able to return it and wait until the foundation is in stock, it doesn't matter that you opened it.

Yes, you could return it.  

And tinted moisturizer and foundation are not the same.

Tinted moisturizers offer less coverage and just evens out the skin tone a little.  It doesn't cover blemishes.  Foundation evens out the skin tone completely and cover up blemishes somewhat.

It sounds as if the woman was being a bad sales rep and should have redirected you to a concealer, which adds full coverage, but isn't for the entire face.
