if anyone has any info on how I can get some background information on TITAN AUTO INS., perhaps from better businness bureau or another reputable source.

I have never heard of them and looking for CHEAP insurance. If you have heard of them OR know of a better ins. co. (for auto) or could offer any assistance at all it would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou

  1. Yes, they're reputable. They have an A+ rating and are owned by Nationwide, one of the country's largest insurers, and in many cases they are CHEAP.

However, you need to be aware that it is a nonstandard (high-risk) company, so their policy contract is more limited than the Nationwide standard policy, and the service levels might be different. That is one way that they make it CHEAP.

They specialize in minimum-limit liability coverage--the least amount of coverage for OTHER PEOPLE that the state requires you to buy. They are usually pretty competitive on liability coverage, although it varies. They will also sell physical damage coverage for your car, although they are less competitive in some cases. However, if you are comparing them to standard and preferred companies, you might be looking in the wrong place.

How they operate varies from state to state. Your level of service and agent interaction will be different, depending on where you buy it. In some states (like Arizona), they have Nationwide-owned storefronts that sell NOTHING but nonstandard auto insurance; the sales people tend to move in and out fairly quickly, so you might not be able to develop a long-term relationship with an agent. In Michigan, they're sold through independent agents, who can also handle your other needs. In Ohio and some others, they allowed some of the Nationwide agents to open Titan locations, so you might find a higher caliber agent looking for a long-term relationship. Nationwide has also waffled the last couple of years on whether to use the Titan brand for ALL of their nonstandard policies sold through Nationwide agents.

If you have a claim, then whichever state or type of agency, you'll find the property damage claims are handled by the same Nationwide claims adjusters that handle all of their other policies; but the injury claims are handled by a special claims unit, NOT the same as their standard and preferred policies.

  2. Just wanted to say hello to Zan!

I do not know anything about this company,

What does the Better Business Bureau say about this company or the Insurance Commissioner?

  3. OK, IME, the BBB is pretty much useless.

You need to check two places, your state insurance department website, and AM Best.

Titan is an A+ XV insurance company.   That's huge, in size, and financially very strong.  They're owned by Nationwide.    Maybe you've heard of THEM.

Not all companies offer insurance in all states, and many companies rely on agents for new business, rather than advertising on television/radio.  So just because you haven't heard of a company, doesn't mean there's a problem with them.

CHEAP insurance means, little coverage.  That's how it works.  The less coverage you have, the cheaper the insurance.   If you have any questions, discuss the coverages with an agent, before you buy, so you know EXACTLY what you're getting - that way, you won't have any surprises at claims time.
