  1. The quinine in tonic is basically a poison, but it is only in small quantities in tonic.

You can end up with stomach ache and upset if you drink a lot. Mind you, a lot of a lot of things can be bad for you! Like everything in life, it is best in moderation.

  2. It depends on how much you drink of it.  Your friend is right, QUININE can cause an ABORTION... it's an old "morning after" pill... been around for 100 years or so... but you have to drink a LOT of Tonic Water to have that effect... Phenylalanine can give you a bad hangover... it's the Phenyls... same thing that most alcohols have in them.

Gin and Tonic was invented by a bartender at an Officer's Club in India back during the occupational days when England was in charge.  Malaria was a problem, so the Officers and men of the Indian Army had to take QUININE to mask the effects of Malaria (It didn't CURE it.. just mask the symptoms).  Quinine is EXTREMELY BITTER... so the enterprising bartender came up with a Gin and Tonic drink to make taking the daily ration of Quinine more acceptable.

The BEST Gin and Tonic drink is "Sargeant Major" which comes pre-mixed

  3. Too much of anything is bad for you but the quinine in tonic water is said to be good for night cramps.mind you I think there's only a smidgeon of it in the drink

Is phenylalanine  in the ordinary tonic or just the low calorie one?

  4. No, only the Gin you put in it.

  5. depends on how much you get through a day

  6. Not sure about if too much is not good for you, but it good if you suffer with cramp, and is better at preventing that than salt.
