Hi since Warner Brother Co. they choose Sony Blu-ray & will drop support HD-DVD. Rumors say that Sony pay $500 Million to WB & WB could not resist. Should I stop buying HD-DVD? There are still movies that I want to buy from Universal & Paramount Pictures movies on HD-DVD format. What should I do?

  1. The famous format war...HD-DVD will probably win out since HD-DVD players are significantly cheaper than Blu-ray players today. Just like the VHS vs. Betamax format war, the winner was not the better technology but the technology that made to the masses faster. Sony is always more expensive and IMHO will lose the format war.

  2. Well ... if it were me ... and if I had the HD DVD player already, I'd ask myself if there were any disadvantage to continuing to buy HD DVDs, assuming I wanted to watch the movie (and own the disk so I could replay it)?

I think I would go ahead and buy since this way I a) get to watch the movie in HD, b) get more use out of my existing player, and c) don't have to put out the $ to buy a Blu-ray player now.

If the movie were available in both Blu-ray and HD DVD format you would have to choose, but even then, unless you have a Blu-ray player it would still make sense to buy the HD DVD version.

The only difference the Warner decision makes in the short term is that you may be able to get better prices on HD DVD disks since many won't buy them.

In the longer term you may have two players (or more likley you can hold out for a dual format player on sale) and will have a library of blue and red cases on a shelf.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Hey Buddy,

I don't understand your question? Are you trying to decide between buying a blu-ray or hd dvd player? There is an equipment out there that can play both formats. look at LG's BH-100 or BH-200 so u can still watch movies on HD-DVD formats.

looking for a cheap blu-ray player? buy a PS3, thats probably the best deal for everything u r getting. And I have to in agree with you in saying that BlockBuster's customer service sucks.

  4. imo yes, i work at blockbuster and blu ray is outselling/ourenting DVD's 5 to 1
