  1. Is Turkey in Europe? Are Turks dark as Africans? Do exist Greeks that are blond haired? Are Greeks are dark as Africans? Why ancient Greeks were blond?

    Are Turks Mongols?....the same questions again and again.

    Why someone would have to prove that he belongs to Europe, that he is blond too?

    By the way, Vasiliki you are very right, I think geographicaly and ficancially Turkey is in a better or the same position with other Christian countries.

    But,I also get the impression that one can't compare Turkey to Greece politically, when POLITICS is the only reason that Turkey isn't in EU.

  2. If Cyprus is in Europe, then Turkey certainly is. (Geographical)

    If Bulgaria is in Europe, then Turkey certainly is. (Economical)

    If Greece is in Europe, then Turkey certainly is. (Political)

    Other than that, Turkey is in Anatolia and Thrace, Anatolia being the cradle of civilizations.

    Edit: I wonder what difference people speak of about the political structures of Turkey and Greece. Of every political ill that can be thought of, I can find similar cases in Greece on the net.

    As some other user had said, Greeks think they hide their problems well, but I don't agree.

  3. Yes Turkey is in Europe!

    p.s. gugu I like your answer:)

  4. Geographically, only a small part. Geopolitically...well, that's a little complicated. I personally see them as a bridge between East and West.

  5. Man, check where this section is.

    Travel -> EUROPE -> Turkey

    Cheers.

    GUGU! Thanks for your BEST answer. I totally agree :)

  6. define Europe's borders?

  7. quote from Tottaly Blunt

    If Cyprus is in Europe, then Turkey certainly is. (Geographical)

    -Correct

    If Bulgaria is in Europe, then Turkey certainly is. (Economical)

    -Correct

    If Greece is in Europe, then Turkey certainly is. (Political)

    ->False,

    No way to compare the political system of Greece and Turkey

    Other than that, Turkey is in Anatolia and Thrace, Anatolia being the cradle of civilizations.--->  (wow,this made my day ,,hahah)

    You forgot some "If".....

    If Turkey improves its human rights then will certainly be....

    (Freedom of Speech/expression->Youtube,Muammer Aksoy,Bahriye Üçok,Hrant Dink)

    (Freedom of Religion->scarf in Universities)

    (Gender equality)

    Well to be exact in my answer.

    Geographically speaking (i think that was your answer) Turkey is in Eurasia.

    Europe 3% and the rest in Asia.

    edit:

    Noone said we dont have political problems.We do have.Look at Italy for example...Corruption by Berlusconi is unbelievable.

    BUT,we don't have our goverment going to courts,we don't have military involving into politics,neither we are accused for genocides :)

  11. only one part is in europe the east thrace and some islands in aegean sea! the biggest part is in asia!!! so turkey is in asia. and it can not be a part of eu because then the eu will share border with irak!!!!

  12. Yes Turkey is in Europe, though it is not a member state of the European Union

  13. Partly.

  14. look at the world map, Turkey is at the center of the world

    part European, part Asian, part of everything

  15. If the 4% in Europe counts as partially and the 96% in Asia is ignored, than yes Turkey is a part of Europe.

    And England is stretching to the mediterranean sea because the land of Gibraltar is govern by the Queen Elisabeth.

  16. partly

  17. If it is about organizations (I'm not going to talk about Norway, Switzerland, etc), apparently Turkey was in Europe until 80's (being invited/accepted to several (predominantly) European organizations), then it must have moved away with the ground shaking 80's coup. At least Turkey stayed continental, unlike those islands. It is certainly a blasphemy to say that G Britain and Ireland is in Europe, I hope you are not one to think so. /sarcasm. I believe you know the geographical situation (making my aunt live in a different continent than i do, and we are about 15 minutes away with a car in the rare situations when there is not much traffic) The rest is prejudices relying on some amount of facts.

  18. It is often called the Gateway to Asia since the country actually sits half on the European continent and half on the Asian continent (physically).

    Politically however the country is not a part of the European Union and so EU citizens require a Visa to travel there and Turkish citizens the same to travel to Europe.

    Turkey has long term goals to join the European Union to take advantage of economic subsidies and freedom of movement for its citizens but the country is yet to meet minimum requirements to enter and their application causes much debate within EU member countries.

  19. Yes everything west of the Bosporus is Europe and everything east is Asia, so it is both. Most of Turkey lies in Asia though.

    Turkey is the middle man and Istanbul has had a very important role in the development of modern European society. Such as the black plague who's gates went through Constantinople (at the time) and infected all of Europe, then also the fourth crusade who's army went through Constantinople and sacked the city, or even through trade without the city of Istanbul there would be no printing press (originally invented by the Saudi's) and the Reformation wouldn't have had the slightest effect on Western Europe.

    Istanbul (turkish) /Constantinople (roman) / Byzantium (greek) (sorry Turks I have to list all the names)

  20. If you trust Wikipedia:

    Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye), known officially as the Republic of Turkey (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti (help·info)), is a Eurasian country... [considered a single continent, Eurasia comprises the traditional continents of Europe and Asia, concepts which date back to classical antiquity and the borders for which are somewhat arbitrary. Eurasia, in turn, is part of the yet larger landmass of Afro-Eurasia, whereby Eurasia is joined to Africa at the Isthmus of Suez.]

    They participate in all the European sports competitions, and don't they say that sports usually bring out the true essence in people.

  22. geographically , historically yes we are turkey became a member of the council of Europe in 1949 Ural mountains are on the border of europe and asia which are in the east of turkey there's no real consensus about asia minor thats why partly in europe like Russia
