  1. No.the most similar is Cyprus

You can't even put together Greece and Turkey....Only quite common is food and music/folkore....

  2. In some things they are similar, but in some others they aren't. Besides, I don't think you can generalise like that; every country is unique. I, for one, wouldn't agree that Italy is so similar to Croatia, or Albania to Macedonia (there are some similarities of course). The same goes for Greece and Turkey.

By the way, I notice that every time a question like this appears, Turks try to say that their country is very similar to Greece, whereas Greeks do their best to prove that there is a light years distance between those countries. As always, the truth is somewhere in between: there are similarities and lots of Turkish influences in Greece (and even the other way around), but there are also a lot of differences.

Greek Barbie, don't laugh so much. Actually, Dalmacija and Istra, parts of Croatia on the Adriatic Sea, can be pretty similar to Italy. I have to admit that Slovenia and Croatia are the most "western" countries in ex-Yugoslavia. Concerning the mentality and that kind of things, Croatia is closer to Italy than, for example, to Serbia. Also, Slovenia seems to be closer to Austria than to Balkan countries. But you still can't pair those countries, of course, because each of them is unique. Each country had its own history and other components that shaped it exactly the way it is now.

And you Alexander, don't underestimate Albanians; you're not THAT MUCH different from them - of course some similarities can be found.

Finally, "Greek warrior" said: "You do know that Cyprus was almost annexed to Greece, like the rest of the Greek Islands were? But you'd have to take a look at history to see why this didn't happen."

Of course it didn't happen. Do you think they should have let you do that? I don't think so.

CONCLUSION: Every country is unique and can't be compared to any other country, but all Balkan countries have some similarities, and those similarities mostly came from the Turkish influence.

  3. you mean fyrom is most similar to Albania. Greece is most similar to Cyprus

  4. Turkey is not even close similar to Greece, Cyprus is.

And how the h**l you compare Albania and Macedonia. Macedonia is most similar to Serbia.

  5. NO.  There are some similarities ---- in food for example and traditional music forms.  Their religions and  cultures are ENTIRELY different.   Greece is more similar to Cyprus and even Italy.

  6. Although Turkey and Greece share alot of history, including years of each other's rule, there are other countries that are similar to Greece such as the Balkan nations and, as has been mentioned, Cyprus.

  7. No. There are similarities but Turkey is not most similar to Greece. Greeks that have origins in Asia Minor, Eastern Thrace or Black Sea bear of course more cultural similarities with the Turks than the other Greeks do. So do the Macedonians and the Western Thracians with the Bulgarians and the Bulgaro-FYROMians, while the Ionian Greeks are culturally closer to Italy than the Aegean ones. The Dodekaneseans are closer to Cypriots and Epirotes to northern Epirotes in southern Albania. Personally, I have origins from southern Greece, which has a unique and definitely not categorized culture (as Crete, thessaly and the Cyclades have). Generally, I think that Greeks are culturally closer to Cyprus and southern Italy (which has a long greek past) because of history, religion, climate and ethnicity . I mean that if I meet a Cypriot or Southern Italian I can easily mistake him for a person from Greece, not only because of his appearence but also because of his behavior.

  8. The most similar country to Greece is Cyprus. 80% are ethnic Greeks. Same language (but they speak dialect), same religion, same history, same culture (with variations), same music, same mentality.

You do know that Cyprus was almost annexed to Greece, like the rest of the Greek Islands were? But you'd have to take a look at history to see why this didn't happen.

  9. NO. Greece is most similar to Cyprus, then Italy, Spain and Serbia are the countries which are culturally closest to Greece.

Btw, you paired up Italy with Croatia? (lol?)

  10. I'd say no, I mean turkish are muslim and greece are christian, mostly. but i think that italy is most like Sicily. more than croatia.

  11. I don't think so. It can't be, because Turkish culture is a unique blend while Greek culture is, well, Greek. Also I would not agree with any of the comparisons you've made above.

I know you've asked this question just to spark up a discussion, you are a level 1 user and the first question that came into your mind when you signed in on yahoo answers was this? Which one do you crave to be, Pinky or the Brain? Considering your pathetic trolling abilities, you look pretty pink to me.

  12. Hi. I can't answer your question since I've never visited Turkey, but I don't really agree with your "categorization of countries by couples" idea. How did you end up with those couples? Have you been to all of these countries, do you know their people, their mentality, their civilization etc? You may well categorize them as you like of course, but are you sure that the Portuguese or the Bulgarians, for example, would agree with you?

  13. Probably the Republic of Cyprus is most similar to Greece.

  14. **** NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  15. Spent one month in sicily going all around the island. never felt like a foreigner and i guess that was because im turkish. I was able to harmonize very easily, had no difficulties in my relations with the local. Depending on my personal experiences Sicilians and most of the Italians I met are quite like Turks I know.  I believe that all mediterranean nations resemble one another in many ways.

Greeks and Turks also resemble and probably the best matching two nations. Both nations favor the same kind of music, have similar cuisine traditions and share a lot of words in their languages. These are the first proofs I can remember.

So yes Turkey is probably the most similar country to Greece

PS: Its not right matching Greece with Cyprus since both share the same heritage. It would be like matching Turkey with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus..
